We are hiring an Product Development Manager I for our Jewelry Team!


This role will research and develop new concepts, and development and management of backends for existing programs for more senior staff members, as needed. Creatively brainstorm and concept new ideas that will appeal to the buyer.  Handle various aspects of development including research and references, and correspondence with artists, vendors and licensors. Manage administrative functions including tracking, scheduling and updating reports and product programs. Creatively solve issues and problems related to design, scheduling and costs.


What you get to do each day includes:


Administrative Project Management Tasks 

  • Update and maintain product development database (File Maker Pro) to include all the specifications of the product and critical dates.  Complete fact sheets, design worksheets, and contract requests, with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness, as it relates to status on products and product research. Communicate and keep the workflow smooth across the various departments such as Advertising, Design, Production, Marketing, and Licensing. 
  • Prepare kick-off packets for meetings and presentations.
  • Responsible for digital photography samples and products; review and approve invoices and send to Accounting for processing.
  • Prepare packages for shipment via DHL, Fed Ex and messenger; faxing (domestic and international), scanning, and other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
  • Accountability and responsibility for all development and production dates in the filemaker pro system.

Concepting & Developing Products

  • Maintain and manage a minimum of 50 products with emphasis on the design quality and series cohesion with a cadence of every 30 days. Coordinate and manage through licensor approvals, design, sculpt, sampling and manufacturing processes to include preparation of design worksheet, fact sheet, approvals, product reporting, and literature. Set up and maintain backends in database; pull art and appropriate research for review; work with designer on illustrations, review and communicate DDCP changes to Design team. Responsible for program scheduling and target dates.
  • Provide detailed critiques of products in all stages of development, pre-production samples and production samples including backstamps and certificates to the vendors.
  • Participate in concepting and brainstorming with Product Development team.  Develops and presents a minimum of 3-5 concepts for each blurb meeting.  In conjunction with Marketer, flesh out the blurb to a fully fleshed out concept. Upon approval of the concept, present mockup/sketches, face references, artist recommendations and specs for costuming and cogs.
  • Ensure product spec packages are sent out to sourcing manager for COGS for each product.
  • Follow up on outstanding VIP issues in a timely fashion.

Contacts with Artists & Outside Resources

  • Work with outside resources such as designers, artists/sculptors, model shops, licensors, and vendors on new concepts and information and material required to complete the job. Communicate and direct outside sketch artists, illustrators, sculptors, painters, mold makers, and manufacturers. Expand design pool (designers, sketch artists, sculptors, painters, etc) by proactively seeking out new talent to result in quality and reliable resources for the product development team.


  • MA, MFA, BA or BFA degree in Graphics or Apparel Merchandising/Design or art related field.
  • 2-3 years work experience.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills – both verbal and written. 
  • Must be organized and must be very detail oriented.
  • Knowledge of MAC/PC including Excel, Word, PhotoShop, INDesign.
  • Ability to work and troubleshoot in an extremely fast paced environment.
  • Strong internship experience or a minimum of two years work experience is preferred. 
  • Experience in a clerical and/or art and craft environment is a major plus. 
  • Artistic skills.
  • Familiarity with Illustrator and/or databases is helpful.
